2013 Higher Plane Chardonnay
Halliday 95/100
Wine & Spirits 93/100
Color, nose and palate
The nose is complex and vibrant offering fresh notes of grapefruit, mandarin, jasmine, pecan, fig and petrichor. On the palate, seductive
white stone-fruit, cantaloupe and citrus rind flavours are enhanced with hints of brioche, hazelnut and a distinctive thread of briny mineral drive. A seamless integration of ripe varietal character, subtle lees handling and Burgundian oak selection, have created a wine with line, texture and great poise.
Cellaring potential:This wine will cellar well for up to 10 years.

Winemaker’s Comments
The grapes for this single vineyard Chardonnay were whole bunch pressed straight to barrel to reduce phenolic content and increase texture while allowing ‘free range’ yeast to ferment the juice to provide complexity. Lees stirring and lees contact were utilised to enhance mouth-feel and extra complexity. To maintain the natural acid balance only partial malolactic was encouraged resulting in approximately 10% of the wine. The weather in the lead up to the 2013 vintage was near perfect with close to normal picking times. Hand picking of 3 batches captured different flavor profiles from citrus to white stone fruit. After 10 months in barrel on lees, individual barrels were selected and blended to create the best wine.
