2018 Hahndorf Hill “Gru” Gruner Veltliner
Halliday 96/100
Wine & Spirits 91/100
Color, nose and palate
This savoury beauty has an enticing nose of citrus, nectarine and spice with a wonderfully vibrant palate of stone fruit, grapefruit and an unctuous citrus core that is offset by a long, slaty mineral tail and the all-important gentle rub of texture.
Cellaring Potential: Gruner Veltliner is a variety that ages well and this wine should develop splendidly for between 8 – 12 years.
Food suggestion: Perfectly matches with all Asian cuisine, white meats, sea-foods and vegetarian dishes. But most excitingly, here is the ultimate white wine that will match perfectly with your favourite rare sirloin steak!

Description
This is our ‘Classic’ style of Gruner Veltliner. The six different clones of Gruner were hand-harvested in four separate stages to ensure a varying range of ripeness.
Each batch was treated differently in the cellar. A degree of skin contact was allowed on selected parcels of grapes. Some of the juice was warm-fermented in stainless steel, some cold-fermented, and other juice wild-fermented in old barriques. The wine in old barriques, and the cold fermented parcel, was allowed some extended lees contact.
The final wine is a blend from all of these components.
